A Lovely New Year

Peonies! Mixed with Diamonds!

I turned 36 yesterday.  Huh.

Age isn't a weird subject for me. I still get carded from time to time (gotta love those Asian genes, thanks Dad), but whereas birthdays have come and gone, this one will always stand out.

I had my birthday lunch in Rome.
Ok it was the St. Regis Monarch Beach.  Close enough.

It's not because of my amazing birthday celebration--a gaggle of supportive friends and family cheers-ing me from the stunning patio at the St. Regis Monarch Beach, the breathtaking Pacific Ocean in the distance; an impromptu Plush Karaoke Lounge visit where we sang our little Madonna-loving hearts out; snort laughing (just one of my awesome quirks) to Pitch Perfect in our pj's while noshing on Trader Joe's goodies (have you tried TJ's Raisin Rosemary Crackers? They're straight up crack cocaine) and sipping my favorite beverage, Veuve Cliquot (I'm fancy).

It's not because I'm not exactly where I thought I'd be at 36.  As in, I didn't imagine I'd be living in Orange County, divorced, starting my own company, or battling an eating disorder.

It's because I've realized I'm done.  Done wondering what happened, where I went wrong, why things didn't turn out the way I planned.

It's because I've realized I'm not in control.  God is. And my path, it's not always pretty.  In fact, sometimes it's a flipping mess.  But he is teaching me that there is beauty everywhere, especially in the struggle.

And I've decided to write about it.  And I'd be honored if you'd join me on my journey.  Who knows, it could be fun.  Maybe even lovely.

Fact: Just looking at cupcakes makes me happy.
